History

Social work is one of the most versatile job oriented Post Graduate Degree.

Master of Social Work was introduced in 2007 offering three specializations namely Human Resource Management, Medical and Psychiatric Social Work and Community Development.

The curriculum has three important components-theory, fieldwork and research. It enables the students to acquire necessary knowledge of sociology, psychology, Philosophy and methods of social work, and practical experience in scientific social research.

Title of the event: Online Short Term Internship at National Human Rights Commission(NHRC)

 

The online short term internship was scheduled for 15 days from 1st to 15th of September 2021. Trainee learnt about the various functions of NRHC. Trainees presented a book review based on issues of human rights & gender and carried out a Research Project with a team comprising of 10-12 members.

Title : Emergency Team volunteer from April-June 2021 at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital

 

Trainee gave counseling to the COVID patients & there family. Ambulance coordination at the time of may 2021 and during post COVID period. Trainee helped with Discharge coordination for COVID recovered patients ( to home and to COVID care & health centers). Trainee also helped with Data entry in vaccination center

Provided psycho-social support for the patients, Provided Counseling to the COVID patients & to their family members and followed up COVID affected patient’s health through telephone and arranged medicines and  food for patients during the month of  2021

Performed in awareness programme conducted on World Mental Health Day on 09th & 13th October sat CMBT and Chennai Central Railway station in collaboration with IMH,Kilpauk and The Candles NGO.

 

 

 

The students of Social Work Department (Shift 2) displayed awareness on the ill effects of Drug Abuse and Alcoholism by performing street theater on 01/07/2019 in the Hindu College Auditorium.


The second year students of Social Work (shift 2) visited a slum on 28/06/2019 at Park Town to understand the issues of Urban Development and to fulfill their part of curriculum in collaboration with an NGO (Madras Social Service Society).

The students of MSW – II Year(2018-20) won “Best Performance – Street Theater” on World Elder Abuse Awareness Day – Presided by Honorable Mr. Ma Foi K. Pandiarajan, Minister for Tamil Official Language and Tamil Culture, Tamilnadu.
