History

Statistics department was established in the year 2011. The department caters the needs of various statistics aspirants with a vision to equip them with statistical computing and emerging statistical tools.

Mission

The relative trend exhibits the demand for statistician, department serves with a mission to accomplish the demand for statistician in the years to come.

Department Activities

World Population day

World Population Day is observed on July 11 every year. The day is aimed to shift the focus towards the urgency and the significance of issues related to population. We conduct competition on poster presentation and the students are awarded with prizes.

National statistics day

P.C. Mahalonobsis birth anniversary is celebrated as National Statistics Day every year. Student participation in Statistika Expo on 28/06/19.

 SURVEY DAY

Survey day was organized on 10th December 2018. The Motive of the event is to conduct survey for the Project “CARBON FOOT PRINT” to enable the students to know about the survey techniques and to set a survey questionnaire.

INAUGURATION OF KNOWLEDGE FORUM

Knowledge forum was inaugurated on 23rd October 2018 for a purpose to make learning as fun. For beneficial of students we have designed many innovative ideas to spread knowledge beyond the syllabus and also we conducted test series using mobile app.

ISI GUEST LECTURE

On 24th September 2018 we organized Guest lecture given by DR. Rituperna Sen, Assistant Professor, Indian Statistical Institute, Chennai. The resource person gave a guest lecture on the topic “Statistical Problems of Big Data with applications to Finance” which enable the students the acquire some knowledge about Multivariate analysis inclusive of Big data analysis.

TILASTO

Department of statistics conducted TILASTO-2018, Inter School Competitions on 21 July 2018. Students of statistics visited many school from perambur to thiruvallur. They nearly invited 40 schools under the guidance of department.  From various school students participated in competition with lots of competitive spirit. Competition was conducted to regenerate the young minds towards social awareness and basic elements of Statistics.
