
History
The Department of English (shift 2) was started in the year 1995. The department today has evolved into a full-fledged department offering BA English and foundation English courses to students of the other departments. One of the primary objectives of the department is to enhance the communication skills of the Foundation level students. The department also aims in creating a literary ambiance for the students of BA English program through various projects like the theater event known as playhouse and the Literary Festival. The department has restructured its association activities this year with the introduction of the brand-new English association – Literati. The English association has four projects under it. The Writing club which is known as spark. The Reading club which is named as Bookmarks, the audio-visual club which is called as Waves and the Theatre club known as Colosseum. Believing in the vision of our dear secretary i.e. Beyond the syllabus, all these projects will enable students to engage their minds in creative and critical thinking. The department also offers remedial programme for the students who are deemed as low achievers. The programme is titled as Refresh 2018. One of the primary objectives of the programme is equip the low achievers with the essentials of English Language.

To provide quality based language training at the foundation level. To create a culture of literariness and academic research among the B.A English students.

The overall mission of the English Department into promote language and literature-specifically the ability to read, write, and think critically.

POOJA EVENT
The department is forever indebted to the management for providing a new staff room and we started our journey seeking the blessings of the Divine power. A special pooja was conducted to consecrate the new room on June 4th, 2018. All the staff members participated in this special event.
FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME
Faculty development programme was organised by the Department of English in partnering with the management on 23/06/2018 at Cunnan Knowledge centre. The programme was titled ‘Tap the Text’ which explored the ways a coursebook can used in different ways to construct meaningful language activities. The sessions were handled by Dr. Usha Mahadevan and Dr. Manjula. It was conducted especially for the staff members of English department to develop teaching methodology.
GENERAL ENGLISH BRIDGE COURSE
Bridge course was conducted for the first-year General English students from June 12th to 16th. It was arranged to fill the gap that exist between school and college. Topics on basics grammar, soft skills, newspaper readings were carried out in the session
ORIENTATION PROGRAMME: [ABLAZE – 2018]
Orientation programme was conducted for first B.A. English students to give insight into the subject. The session started from 12/06/2018 to 16/06/2018. Topics based on literature such as literary forms, literary terms, Classical literature, Indian drama, Children’s literature and Post colonial literature was discussed.
INAUGURATION OF LITERATI ASSOCIATION
Literati, The English Association was inaugurated on 25/06/2018 in connection with fresher’s day. There are five clubs under Literati Association namely SPARK, COLOSSEUM, BOOKMARK, WAVES and Under The Tree(UTT). On the day of inauguration, Association members were declared, and responsibilities were allotted.
